Is it true that Businesses no longer have to offer medical to the partner of the worker?

That seems unfair. It isn't their fault they can't get married.

No, dear, it is not true. What is true is that it has never been a legal requirement that businesses offer same-sex partner insurance benefits to their employees. Those companies that do are under no legal obligation but have chosen to do so, which is commendable.

When same-sex marriage is made legal, the same benefits offered to heterosexual couples will, by law, have to be extended to the married partners in these unions. Until then, support the businesses who, out of thier own progressive and magnanimous nature, support their employees. Is it true that Businesses no longer have to offer medical to the partner of the worker?
In the US they have never been forced to offer this benefit. It is still quite legal to fire someone for being gay, not rent housing to them, etc.
