I've not seen in on any of the departments I worked for, or any other departments in the area.
When women were first allowed on departments, I suspect it happened frequently from the old timers that didn't believe a woman belonged in this career field. However, all those guys are long retired.
Officers now have experienced women on the department since they were hired, so I doubt it happens anytime near as much as it used to. In addition, equal opportunity and harassment free work place policies allow for termination for harassment.
Unfortunately, there are some that are still subject to harassment and will not file a complaint because they don't want to risk a bigger problem turning in a coworker. Is it true that female police officers in some departments get harassed by their male partners and superiors?
I am sure it does happen. That being said, it can happen in any career.
As a female officer, I have not experienced it, no have any of my female coworkers that I know of.
There are policies in place to help prevent this and it is very much frowned upon by management but again, it can sometimes be difficult to come forward.
Its also going to depend on what you consider harassment.
Yes, that does happen. However, male officers harass other male officers too. Razzing each other in the squad room is kinda how it's done. It means you're in the club. When everyone is polite to you you know you're not liked.
Sure.
Some male officers get harassed. Some short officers get harassed. Some overweight officers get harassed.
It's not limited to females, and it does not happen very often to anyone.
This happens in almost every profession , not just law enforcement.
Also its not always the female who is being harrased.
Yes It Is.
